Job Title: Human Resources Intern

Our operations include demolition, site preparation, excavation, underground service installation, remediation services, telecom, and special projects.
Position Summary:
The HR Intern will play an important role in the organization's overall mission and objectives by supporting the Human Resources Manager in a variety of human resources functions. This temporary internship offers valuable hands-on experience in areas including recruitment, employee onboarding, employee engagement, performance management, HR compliance, and administrative support. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, highly organized, and passionate about people and workplace culture.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment: Assists with the recruitment process by posting job openings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate communications, and drafting offer letters.
- Onboarding/Offboarding: Support the employee lifecycle by facilitating onboarding for new hires (welcome communications, orientation materials, sessions, and required paperwork) and by ensuring departing employees receive clear information regarding their benefits and final pay.
- Employee Records Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, performance evaluations, and training certifications.
- Benefits Administration: Support the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and inquiries.
- Communication: Frequent communication about benefits and corporate information to our employees.
- Payroll Coordination: Collaborate with Benefits & Payroll Administrator and HR Manager to ensure accurate processing of employee information and timely payroll processing.
- Training and Development: Coordinate training sessions and workshops, tracking employee participation and feedback.
- Performance Management: Support the performance evaluation process by coordinating timelines, collecting feedback, and maintaining documentation.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal and provincial labor laws and regulations, including health and safety standards.
- Event Coordination: Assist in organizing employee engagement events, training programs, and team-building activities.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement within the HR function and propose solutions.
- Other Duties: Administrative duties and HR support as needed.
Competencies:
- HR Knowledge and Expertise: Base understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws. Familiarity with recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, and employee relations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels. Ability to convey HR policies and procedures in a clear and understandable manner.
- Attention to detail and Organizational Skills: Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation. Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Interpersonal Skills and Confidentiality: Strong relationship-building skills to foster a positive work environment. Ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for creating reports, presentations, and effective communication, and other online platforms, including social media.
- Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Demonstrates a readiness to learn new systems and software as needed, with an openness to exploring and sharing insights on emerging HR trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to overall departmental goals.
- Cultural Awareness and Inclusion: Understanding of diversity and inclusion principles and the ability to promote a diverse workplace.
- Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Experienced in analyzing issues, identifying solutions, and making informed decisions. Ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration/Commerce, or a related field (full-time or part-time).
- Minimum 1 year of administrative support experience.
- Strong interest in building a career in Human Resources.
- Familiarity with an HR information system, such as CollageHR, and an applicant tracking system (ATS) is an asset
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or otherwise legally entitled to work in Canada.
